Holiday homes?
A PROMINENT empty Annan building could be brought back to life as holiday lets, if plans are approved.
The proposals for the sandstone building at 2 Bank Street, above, have been put forward by Merseyside firm Bobby and Sons Properties Limited.
They want to transform the former police station and Kate’s Kitchen building into 20 holiday lets with a laundry, cafe and shop.
According to the planning statement: “The proposal seeks to repurpose the building to provide: short-term let accommodation.”
It further reveals that they envisage converting the upper floors into 20 self-contained units, which will be designed to accommodate short-stay visitors.
There will also be an internal reconfiguration, with reassurances given of ‘minimal structural intervention’.
A ground floor café is included in the plans.
The developers describe how it will have an ‘active frontage’ at street level and stress their plans will support the local economy and increase footfall to the town.
They say in their bid that the development “has been carefully designed to retain and respect the character of the listed building, with all works undertaken sensitively.”
The category B listed building has fallen into disrepair since going out of use and there are signs of deterioration on the roof and potential water ingresses.
However, the firm say they are committed to bringing it back into use, stating: “The proposed development represents a sensitive and sustainable reuse of a Category B Listed Building.
“While minor internal alterations are required, the scheme: preserves the building’s key architectural and historic features; enhances its long-term viability and delivers clear public and economic benefits.
“On balance, the proposals are considered to preserve the character and special interest of the listed building and are therefore acceptable.”
