TEEN angler Lewis Irving from Gair is pictured showing off the 10lb salmon he caught while fishing the Cleuchhead beat on the lower River Annan.

He was out with his dad Alan, and fellow fisherman Alan Beck when he landed the salmon and a 2.5lb sea trout while spinning.

The 15-year-old has been fishing for two years and joined the River Annan District Salmon Fishery Board’s youth angling development project ‘Positivity Through Angling’ last year.

A spokesman said: “Lewis has been attending our sessions for a year now and although he has only been fishing for around two years altogether, he quietly displays an incredible knowledge of angling for someone of his age and experience.”

The project aims to provide opportunities for children to either try fishing for the first time, or to help existing young anglers to improve through free to attend sessions on angling, water safety, and the countryside code.

The project is currently funded by the Holywood Trust. To find out more, go to fishannan.wordpress.com/youth-angling-in-annandale/
