Triple maple delight so sweet for Solway
A FLURRY of weekend signing sees a trio of Canadians signing on at Solway Ice Hockey Club.
The clubs newest addition is forward Alex Johnston, originally from Ottawa Johnston makes the move to Dumfries after spending four seasons at Carleton University. Highly regarded for his strong hockey IQ and puck possession, making him a great fit for the Solway side.
Johnston said: “I can’t wait to see you guys and play for you this upcoming season.”
Meanwhile, fan favourite forward Jonny Yantsis is “incredibly excited” to be back playing at the Ice Bowl for the 26/27 season. Despite only playing 36 games in the NIHL National League, Yantsis has already racked up an impressive 61 points.
Commenting on his return to Dumfries, he said: “I’m incredibly excited to return and begin a new chapter for Solway back where we belong, in Dumfries.
“My goal is to help restore the winning culture that Solway players and fans came to expect and take pride in over the years.
“More than anything, I can’t wait to see everyone back in the Ice Bowl, creating that special atmosphere again.”
Rounding out the crop of Canadians is defenceman Olivier Arseneau who has signed a two-year deal with Solway.
Arseneau has made himself a well known name in the NIHL National League, having racked up an impressive 127 points from the blue line.
The defenceman has quickly become a fan favourite in Dumfries both on and off the ice especially with him coaching the next generation.
He added: “I’ve been here for the past three seasons, and I’m happy to be extending my stay for another two. I love the town, I love playing in front of the Solway fans, and I can’t wait to get this new chapter started.”
