WATCH: Meteor caught on Southerness garden cam

John Aitken from Mainsriddle, near Southerness, spotted a meteor crashing through earth’s atmosphere on Sunday night.

Eagle-eyed stargazers up and down the UK reported spotting the bright meteorite, which was visible just before 10 pm for around seven seconds.

John, who captured the falling space rock on CCTV in his garden, said: “It took me by surprise, the front window faces directly over Solway to Whitehaven. I was watching a film at the time, glad I didn’t miss it, it looked as if it landed in Solway.”

He added that despite seeing “plenty of shooting stars” in the past, it was the biggest meteor he’s ever seen.
