Village war memorial is one of the best

KIRKPATRICK Fleming’s war memorial has won another award.

It has been revealed as the winner of the Best Kept Small Community War Memorial in the Royal British Legion Scotland Best Kept War Memorial Competition 2026 for the Glasgow, Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway Area.

A village spokesperson said: “This achievement is a real testament to the dedication of our volunteers and local community.

“A huge thank you goes to Davie Holt, Stephen Muir and Mick Park for their hard work installing and maintaining the memorial area, Agri Cleaning Solutions for carrying out the specialist cleaning, Stephen and Helen for lovingly looking after the flowers prior to planting and Jo for her beautiful flower arrangements this year.

“This award belongs to everyone who has helped preserve and honour our fallen heroes. Your time, effort and commitment ensure our War Memorial remains a place of remembrance that our community can be proud of.”
