TWO Dumfries men have appeared to set a Guinness World Record by playing 201 holes of golf in 24 hours – and raised more than £10k for charity at the same time.

David King and Jeff McKhean were overjoyed after they found out they had beaten the previous record of 180 holes played in a day after a gruelling shift at Thornhill Golf Club.

The money raised was for Prostate Buddies D&G, a charity that supports men with prostate cancer.

Jeff, 37, and David, 58, teed off at 8 am on Monday and played continuously until the folhlowhing morning.

The duo walked the course 201 times throughout the day and night. The record breaking golf marathon was in memory of Andrew Edgar, who was a founding member of Prostate Buddies D&G and was its treasurer, and who sadly passed away earlier this January.

A spokesman for Prostate Buddies D&G said: “Just a day after Jeff and David completed 201 holes at Thornhill Golf Club, setting a new world record, they were both present at tonight’s monthly meeting at the Dumfries Baptist Church Centre, where all present were proud to join them for a joyful group photograph.

“Their record attempt was also run in memory of treasurer, Andrew Edgar, who we sadly lost in January.”
