Star DJ offers help to save Pinneys campaign

DUMFRIES producer and DJ Calvin Harris has said he wants to help those affected by plans to close Pinneys of Scotland where he used to work.

Young’s Seafood has announced plans to move production from the Annan site with the loss of 450 jobs, plus a large number of agency staff.

The international star has fond memories of his time at the factory and his now management team has been in touch with Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Mark Gillespie on behalf of Calvin Harris contacted council leader Dr Elaine Murray and said: “Hi Elaine, Hope you are well.

“Calvin forwarded me the article about the Pinneys facility that is being threatened with closure in Dumfries and asked if there is anything he can do to help with the situation? He used to work there.

“I wanted to check in and see if it was something you had been involved in or had any visibility on the situation”?

The council posted a message about the DJ’s intervention on Facebook asking: “What do you think? What would you like to see?”

Replies flooded in some suggesting he shoots a video in the town, buys the factory and or stages a special concert at Palmerston.
