School first in region to receive new award
LOCKERBIE Academy has been nationally recognised for their dedication to developing meta-skills in young people.
As such, they are Dumfries and Galloway school to receive the inaugural Gen+ Award.
Presented by Scottish charity Gen+, it recognises educators committed to improving skills identified by the Curriculum for Excellence as essential for learning, life and work.
The school have earned the award following the successful delivery of a range of Gen+ programmes to S1-S3 pupils, helping pupils develop key meta-skills including communication, collaboration and resilience.
Teacher Greg Miller said: “The Gen+ programme has really developed at Lockerbie Academy, it’s developing important skills in the young people that they can carry on to the senior phase.”
Gen+, which is supported by the Peter Vardy Foundation, has worked with more than 22,000 learners across Scotland this academic year.
Managing director Becca Dobson praised the school and said: “This award has been presented to the team in recognition of their fantastic commitment to embedding meta-skills at Lockerbie Academy.
“Through their passion, leadership and dedication, the team have created meaningful opportunities for young people to develop the confidence, resilience and transferable skills they need to thrive.
“We are delighted to recognise and celebrate Lockerbie Academy’s achievements with this award.”
