ENTRANTS for this year’s Moffat Classic Car Rally are on the road heading to Annandale and gearing up for a great weekend.

They are coming from as far as the Shetland Isles, Hampshire, Essex and Ireland.

All 750 spots are taken, while Saturday’s scenic run to Talla is also at capacity.

Cars entered include Aston Martins, Bentley, Buick, Daimler, Hillman, Humber, Jaguar (E Types), Riley, Lotus, Pontiac, Ferrari, Porsche, Morgan and a London taxi!

The oldest vehicle in attendance will be a 1925 Hudson Super Six; and the oldest Rootes Group entry is a 1959 Hillman Minx.

As for motorcycles, there’ll be Harley Davidsons, Triumphs, AJS, BSA, Moto Guzzi, Honda Goldwing, and Lambretta Scooters.

John Campbell, of Lockerbie’s Victoria Garage, is one of the co-ordinators.

He said: “This year we’re changing it a bit, because no one remembers what old cars look like now, so we’ve had to bring the classic-side of it forward a bit. So we’re going to have more newer cars that people will recognise and remember.

“This year we’re also including local rally drivers and their cars, we’re going to have about 15 of them. It’ll be something different for the Moffat rally and people will be able to get an up close look at a rally car.”

John explained that they had to cap entry numbers at 750 cars, plus 20 rally cars, and seven racing motorcycles.

He also revealed that well-known side-car driver Steve Kershaw will be bringing along his Isle of Man TT bike to display.

In addition, motorbike racers James Kennedy from Dumfries and Johnny Stewart, from Galashiels, will be dropping by.
