Man jailed for causing chaos at hospital

A SERIAL offender has been jailed for eight months after launching a series of violent and disgusting attacks on medical staff and police officers across Dumfries.

Lawrence Kimm, 35, of Barkerland Avenue, Dumfries, pleaded guilty to a string of nine charges committed between December and April.

The court heard that on December 10, Kimm caused a disturbance at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) by shouting, swearing, making threats of violence and property damage and picking up and dropping medical equipment.

Less than two weeks later, on December 22, he forced open a shed on Mannering Avenue with intent to steal, and was later caught in Burnett Avenue in possession of heroin. During his arrest there, Kimm assaulted a police officer by punching him.

He then launched into a tirade inside a police vehicle, making death threats against officers and their families whilst repeatedly kicking the van and slamming his own head against the interior.

Upon being taken back to DGRI, he assaulted another officer by spitting on his head.

After breaching his bail curfew conditions between March 11 and April 4, Kimm caused another major disturbance at DGRI on April 5. He shouted and swore in front of patients and staff, threatened to “terrorise” police officers’ families and falsely claimed he had an infectious disease before spitting at officers.

During this second hospital incident, Kimm attempted to headbutt a female officer, spat at other police staff and struck an officer to his injury.

Kimm was sentenced to a total of eight months in prison for the offences.
