Anti-social behaviour on school roof discussed

ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour and incidents of trespassing at Newington School have been raised by several residents this week.

Community councillors heard that damage to the roof of the building has been reported by the school and that measures introduced to address the issue include enhanced security at the site and the seizure of some scooters.

Annan community councillor, Margaret Ramage, said she had spent more than 30 minutes on the phone trying to report an incident to police.

She told the meeting that officers appeared to visit the school the following evening.

The length of time taken to report incidents was a particular concern for those present.

It was argued that if reports are not seen to be dealt with promptly, members of the public may become less willing to contact the police about such incidents.

Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland will always prioritise 999 emergency calls over 101 non-emergency calls. 

“This can sometimes mean longer wait times for 101 calls, but it is essential we ensure the people who require urgent emergency assistance can get the help they need as soon as possible.”
