Cyclist knocked down and had ankle run over

A DUMFRIES pensioner has been ordered to pay a £500 fine and been banned from driving for a year after knocking a cyclist to the ground and running over his ankle.

John Dalziel, 78, of Babbington Drive, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by driving a van without due care and attention on November 25.

The incident occurred on Loganbarns Road, near the Annan Road junction.

Dalziel failed to notice a cyclist queuing at the junction ahead of him and collided with the bicycle from behind.

The impact knocked the man to the ground and Dalziel then drove over the cyclist’s ankle, causing severe injury and damaging the bicycle.

The sheriff disqualified Dalziel from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 12 months alongside the financial penalty.
