Energising sessions for schoolkids

SANQUHAR pupils have taken part in energising workshops aiming to inspire a possible career in the renewables sector.

Experimenting with energy, Academy students and children at Sanquhar Primary had the opportunity to learn about the positive power of the industry with hands-on experience.

The workshops were organised by BayWa r.e; a developer behind the Cloud Hill and Glensalloch wind farm projects in Upper Nithsdale.

Working in partnership with Earth Energy Education, the team brought lessons in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to life - along with describing opportunities created locally.

Primary teacher Brooke Laird said the sessions "really helped them make connections with wind turbines in the local area and the potential jobs they could have in the future.”

Last year, BayWa r.e. secured permission from the Scottish Government for the ten-turbine Cloud Hill Windfarm, between Sanquhar and Kirconnel.

Construction for the project is set to begin in 2028.
