Care home staff test numbers

ONLY 75 of the region’s care home staff have been tested for Covid-19.

On Wednesday it was revealed at First Minister’s Questions that only a fifth of care home staff in Scotland have been routinely tested across the country. Just 11,195 care home staff across Scotland have been tested, out of the estimated 50,000 across the country.

And in NHS Dumfries and Galloway, the figure for tested staff sits at 75, as of June 7, despite Health Secretary Jeane Freeman promising last month that every came home worker would be routinely tested.

Now, Scottish Conservative leader Jackson Carlaw MSP has called for the government to get on top of testing and set a deadline for the local health authority. And he said: “The SNP’s Health Secretary made this pledge three weeks ago that all care home staff would be routinely tested. “The reality is thousands of staff are still waiting to be tested, making a mockery of this pledge.

“For only 75 care home staff in NHSDG to have been tested in the weeks since this pledge does nothing to allay fears of care home staff and residents.”
