Abbey role for Philip

ROYAL duty called again for Philip Tibbetts, above right, from Lockerbie at the weekend.

He travelled to London to be part of the King’s Coronation at Westminster Abbey in his capacity as an officer of the Court of the Lord Lyon. Clad in his official, heavily embroidered state tunic, he was involved in leading the heralds from Parliament to the Abbey and was near the start of the King’s Procession into the Abbey itself.

Through the ceremony, Philip was standing at attention in the North Lantern/Transcept area and could be seen in the background of TV screens.

Philip said: “It was an honour to serve the nation in marking a new era through such an ancient tradition – and a joy to be alongside my fellow The Court of the Lord Lyon officers.

“It was a week of hard work for the Officers of Arms for both England & Scotland but it was all worth it to fulfil our duties seamless during the coronation itself. It was incredible to realise that I was able to witness, let alone participate in, such an ancient tradition so full of powerful symbols. It is not something I ever imagined whilst growing up that I would ever get to do, but it was an honour to represent Scotland, and the March, there for the start of a new era in the country’s history.
“Now I am back in Lockerbie I can definitely feel the weight of the occasion and all the effort catching up on me.”

It came just eight months after he was involved in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in Edinburgh and London.

His next official duties are expected to be at the Service of Thanksgiving in Edinburgh later this summer where the King will be presented with the Honours of Scotland.
