Wylie flies saltire at British Grand Prix
GREAT EXPERIENCE . . . Ross was in action in front of almost half a million spectators and large television audience at Silverstone

THORNHILL’S Ross Wylie competed in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race supporting the iconic British Formula One Grand Prix at Silverstone with major support from multiple, prestigious Scottish companies. The Richardson Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car was sponsored by Scotland’s oldest working distillery, The Glenturret, based in Perthshire, Glasgow-based Tunnock’s plus AL-2 Teknik UK, PyroDry and Carronbridge Sawmill, all three from Ross’s home town of Thornhill. Featuring in the British F1 event, a race previously won by Fife’s Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, from Dunbartonshire, and Twynholm’s David Coulthard, fulfilled a lifetime’s ambition for Ross who is competing in his 20th year of motorsport competition.  Wylie, a Full Member of the prestigious British Racing Drivers’ Club, an exclusive invitation-only members club based at Silverstone, creditably placed inside the top-20 of qualifying in his one-off Supercup outing. Ross then admirably recorded a top-16 placing in the 14-lap race featuring 32 identical Porsche cars, the best-placed British driver with no prior Supercup experience, having outpaced many Supercup regulars in both time trials and the race.

Ross, 31, said: “The weekend was a whirlwind with so much adrenaline pumping through my body – an incredible experience. I’ve never witnessed anything like the atmosphere before.

“There was a lot of emotion on the grid on raceday with my family, sponsors and friends with me. It’s an event I’ll treasure for the rest of my life. It was a good race result, my pace was strong, it’s a fiercely competitive championship, and I’ll be heading home to Scotland very proud.”
