Whyte on course for world play-offs
DUMFRIES curler Ross Whyte and Scotland are close to clinching a World Men’s Curling Championship play-offs spot. It comes after skip Whyte and his team demolished rivals Germany 10-4 in Utah. The Scots have been in sensational form making it six wins in a row. They started the campaign with a narrow loss to Sweden before losing to Japan. But from then they have been unstoppable, picking up victories over Canada, USA, Poland, Italy and Korea. Whyte said: “That was a great performance against the German team. “We played really well and it was about setting the tempo and what we need to do for each game and it feels great so far.” Team Whyte were due to take on China and Norway yesterday. They conclude it with matches against the Swiss and Czech Republic on today. Whyte – along with Robin Brydone, Euan Kyle and Craig Waddell – are representing Scotland after world top-ranked rink Team Mouat elected not to compete after their silver medal at the Olympics in Cortina earlier this year. The top six in the league standings progress, with the top two going straight into Friday’s semi-finals with the other four teams competing to join them.
