Goss departed the Black and Golds for East Fife at the start of August on a season long loan.

He has found the net on three occasions so far for the League One side and played 66 minutes last Saturday in a 1-0 defeat to Kelty.

However, there is set to be a review on the 27-year-old’s loan and Athletic have made contact.

On Annan’s January transfer plans, Gibson said: “I know (the Scottish Cup tie at) Rangers is a massive boost. But the club have got to use (the money) wisely.

“I already know that I’ll not be given any money. For any work that I do, maybe somebody will have to go to allow somebody in, that’s just where we are and I accept that.

“You can see, (we’ve got) Euan Deveney coming back, Joel Mumbongo coming back and Paul Smith back on the bench and available, they’re all good options.

“We’re only missing Tam Muir, hopefully he’s not out too long.

“With a fit squad, I’m quite happy. It’s when you pick up a couple of injuries, and you’ve seen it this season when we’ve had 12 players available – that’s when it’s really tight.

“The boys that are in that dressing room are giving me everything and that’s all I can ask.”

Asked whether Goss could make a return to the fold, Gibson added: “We’re speaking about it. I’ve spoken to him, there has been initial contact.

“There is a review in his loan period with East Fife and I know that Dick Campbell wants to keep him.

“We need to see the extent of Tam Muir’s injury. And, if you look at what we’ve managed to do since Tommy (Goss) has been out on loan in the summer, it’s one area we’ve probably struggled in.

“I’m not saying that he is coming back and I’m not saying he’s not.

“I can tell you there have been talks with him and we will take it from there.”
