Well done to our award-winning editor!
DNG Media’s editor, Fiona Reid, is celebrating success in this year’s Scottish Refugee Council Media Awards.
At the event in Glasgow on Tuesday night, she was named the runner up in the local media category for her two-part series ‘A Refugee’s Reality’ and ‘Life in Syria was a living nightmare’.
They were published in our titles last year and shared the experiences of one of the residents at the Mercure Hotel in Dumfries.
Fiona said: “I am delighted these articles, which were on such an important and sensitive issue, were recognised by the Scottish Refugee Council and I’m honoured to be named runner up.
“It’s a privilege to be a journalist when people trust you with their story and I’d like to thank Mohammed for doing that and, also, John Dennis for his help.
“I hope the pieces were enlightening, educational and informative for our readers as writing them definitely left an impression on me.”
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Refugee Council CEO Sabir Zazai said: “In an increasingly divided world, fair and accurate media coverage has never been more important.
“Good journalism has the power to counter toxic narratives, give marginalised people a voice and build empathy and understanding.
“It’s so important to acknowledge the journalists who are focused on truth, storytelling and humanity.”
