Vick-torious sisters!
TWO Annan sisters have been selected for the 2025/26 Netball Scotland National Pathways Programme under 17 Squad, recognising them among the country’s most talented young netball players. Both Ava and Sian Vickers have progressed through the Dumfries and Galloway District Netball Pathway. They currently represent the region’s under 17 district team, which is enjoying an exceptional season, unbeaten so far, with five wins from five matches.
In addition to their district success, the sisters also play for the Annan Academy senior team, who are currently competing in the Scottish Schools Cup, as well as the Meerkats first team in Carlisle. Ava and Sian are also active supporters of grassroots sport in the region. Both girls volunteer with Active Schools, helping to run after-school netball clubs, umpiring, and assisting at local sporting events. Ava further contributes to the development of the sport through her role in the Netball Scotland Young Ambassador Programme. Head coach Iona Haile praised both players for their continued growth and commitment to the sport. She said: “Ava and Sian have shown incredible determination and drive throughout their time in the Dumfries and Galloway pathway. “They’ve both worked tirelessly to improve their skills, and this selection is a reflection of that effort. “To see the sisters perform so well for our unbeaten under 17 squad and now achieve national recognition is fantastic, they’ve earned every bit of it.” The Netball Scotland National Pathways Programme identifies and nurtures young athletes with the potential to progress to senior international level. More than 160 players attended this year’s U17 and U19 selection trials. Ava and Sian’s achievement continues Dumfries and Galloway’s proud record of producing talented young players who go on to represent Scotland.
