Top win for Vale
Newton Stewart 1-2 Abbey Vale ABBEY Vale secured a brilliant away victory at a sunny Blairmount Park. The home side took the game to the visitors for much of the opening 20 minutes, with the visitors defending resolutely. However, the Creesiders took the lead on 24 minutes after Joe McMillan lobbed the advancing keeper. However, within a minute, the visitors surged up-field and drew level after a fantastic Robbie Simpson strike. The game then took a dramatic twist 10 minutes from the interval when the home side were reduced to ten after Robbie Murray was red carded following a heated altercation. The visitors capitalised on the numerical advantage and took the lead three minutes before the break. A shot from the edge of the area was brilliantly blocked by Euan Drysdale before Josh McVinnie fired the rebound goalward and it deflected off a defender into the net. Newton’s misery was compounded moments later when goalscorer McMillan was dismissed for a second yellow card. Despite the obvious disadvantage in numbers, the Creesiders were content to let the visitors retain possession mostly in their own half. But, the best chances did actually fall to the home side who were unable to convert as Vale defended resolutely. This Saturday, Wigtown and Bladnoch make the journey to New Abbey.
