Top organist in church charity recital

ONE OF the UK’s foremost church organists will be playing a special recital for charity at St John’s on Newall Terrace, Dumfries, on Saturday evening.

Andrew Bryden, the Organist and Director of Music at Ripon Cathedral in North Yorkshire, will be performing a selection of music including works from Johann Sebastian Bach, Cesar Franck and Joseph Jongen.

All money from the recital will go to St John’s Harvest 2015 charity, WaterAid UK.

The former Organ Scholar at Canterbury has had a busy year so far appearing across the country at Cathedrals including Ely, Lincoln, Coventry and Truro to name a few.

His work as an organist and composer has received wide acclaim at home and abroad where he has played to audiences in Holland, Germany, Austria and North America. He has also broadcast on independent radio and television and has made a number of CD recordings on various labels.

He has been Organist and Director of Music at Ripon since 2003.

WaterAid’s mission is to transform the lives of millions of the world’s poorest people by providing access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

In 2014, the charity reached two million people with safe water and three million with sanitation. WaterAid say 500,000 children die each year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.

Tickets for the recital, start 7.30pm, are £10 and available from the church office on Friday from 9.30-3.30, or by ringing 01387 263656. They are also available on the door.
