Time to get even!
QUEEN of the South defender Jack Hannah insists the team are determined to seek revenge over East Fife this weekend.
The Doonhamers take on Dick Campbell’s troops at Palmerston this weekend. The last time the two faced off, the Fifers cruised to a 3-1 victory at Bayview.
And Hannah knows a similar result against the League One surprise package on Saturday would be damaging for the team’s promotion hopes and is eyeing up a Palmy retaliation mission.
He said: “We know East Fife are a physical team, just like Stenhousemuir, so we know we have to perform.
“We need to give East Fife a bit back because the last time we played them we were miles off it, to be honest. We need to put in a performance that shows what we can do.”
Gaffer Peter Murphy knows it will be a tough match against one of the most physical teams in the division but he also wants to get even with the Fifers.
Murphy added: “We’re looking to put a few wrongs right after our last match with them. The players are devastated with conceding in the last minute last week.
“If we approach next week with that little bit of determination then I’m sure there’ll be no problems.”
Queens go into the match off the back of a conceding a heartbreaking last minute equaliser against Stenhousemuir.
Jack Stott scored his second in as many matches to give the Doonhamers the lead, but Scott Taylor netted the leveller with the last meaningful touch of the ball.
You could sense how much that Stenny sucker-punch hurt the team, with Hannah saying it’s the “worst” he’s ever felt after a match.
And Murphy felt the same after last Saturday’s contest.
He added: “It feels like a loss but it was a point in the end. It’s raw because we had the chances to finish the game off.
“I feel sorry for the players and supporters but that’s football after their late goal. We’ve done that to a couple of teams this year but when it happens to you it feels sore.
“Just before their goal, the corner where Stenny sent their keeper up and his header was deflected out by his own man but they got a corner from that. The referee didn’t give the goal kick for that and if he did we’d have seen out the game.
“We’re disappointed but we’ve got to keep up momentum starting on Saturday against East Fife.”
Murphy – who was delighted to welcome back hitman Kurtis Guthrie against Stenhousemuir – hinted Brennan Dickenson could return to the matchday squad after a week out due to injury.
One player who will be desperate to get on the park and make a difference on Saturday is East Fife forward Tommy Goss.
The local striker – who is on loan from Annan Athletic – scored the opener against his former side last time the two played.
