THE Solway Sharks Official Supporters Club (SSOSC) have said they will do all they can to ensure the future of professional senior ice hockey in Dumfries.

The group’s statement comes after news of a contractual dispute between Dumfries and Galloway Council, who own Dumfries Ice Bowl, and DJR Sport, the operator of Solway Sharks senior men’s team.

A council statement said DJR Sport had ‘defaulted on an agreed payment plan and owes the council just over £65,000’.

The local authority added that it would not be entering into any future agreements with DJR Sport and would not be allowing them to use the ice bowl going forward.

DJR Sport said ‘the current position includes a disputed balance, reflecting the issues raised throughout the season and the operation of the agreement in practice’.

A statement from the SSOSC last Friday afternoon said: “?The Solway Sharks Official Supporters Club is fully aware of the ongoing and evolving situation.

“We understand that this is a period of uncertainty for everyone invested in the club, from the players and staff to our dedicated fanbase and sponsors.

“?We have been made aware of a new group that has come forward with a formal intent to support the Solway Sharks.

“Their primary objective aligns with ours, ensuring the team remains at its rightful home, Dumfries Ice Bowl.”

The supporters club said it was committed to working with the new interested group and the council to secure the Sharks for years to come.

It added it was dedicated to having a professional ice hockey team in the town and ensuring the Sharks’ legacy was protected.

SSOCS said it would be making no further comment and would keep members up to date when more information becomes available.
