Strawhorn rink lifts trophy
THE Wullie Smith Trophy – sponsored by local agricultural businesses Dougie Brown, Graham Rae and Cornthwaite Group – took place over the last fortnight at Lockerbie Ice Rink. The final was played between the rinks skipped by Jack Strawhorn and Russell Smith. In an evenly matched game where there was never more than one shot between the teams it was Jack Strawhorn’s rink who finally overcame Russell Smith’s rink in the final end to win by three shots to two. The winning rink was Strawhorn (skip), Hamish Gallagher, Thomas Goldie and Jake Beattie with the runners up being Russell Smith (skip), Graeme Black, Gregor Bell, and Craig Strawhorn. Dave Stewart – on behalf of the ice rink management – welcomed everyone to the final and thanked the sponsors for their support of this historic competition. He then called Anne Smith to present the prizes to the winners and runners up and to present the trophy to the winners.
