DALBEATTIE Star claimed a 13th South of Scotland League title last Saturday after thrashing Wigtown and Bladnoch 11-0 at Islecroft. The healthy home crowd had to wait until just before the half hour mark for the first goal of the contest, but from then on the hosts found the net at regular intervals. Queens loan man Billy Gray opened the scoring with a low drive. Dylan Woods doubled the lead with a fine curling free kick, captain Kyle Higgins found the net with a right foot shot from 18 yards, and Dan Carmichael added a quick-fire double before the half time whistle. Five minutes into the second half John Renwick headed home from a Carmichael corner. Two minutes later Carmichael was tripped in the box and Kylan Hunter made no mistake from 12 yards. Just after the hour Conor Barney scored his first goal for the club, with another header from another Carmichael corner. Hunter scored number nine with another thumping drive, before Gray made it double figures when he scored his second from six yards. One of the biggest cheers of the day came when Dale Milligan came off the bench after being out injured for over a year. And he played a part in the last goal that Charlie Cantlie finished with a first time strike with the outside of his right boot. Star entertain Newton Stewart in their final league fixture of the season tonight, Wednesday.
