Athletic entered the final game off the back of two successive defeats, which had killed their play off hopes and left them with nothing to play for.

Forfar, however, had secured a top four spot in the week previous, in their 4-0 win over Edinburgh City.

Annan started the better of the two sides. And Paul Smith put visiting keeper Mason Munn into action within the first two minutes.

Timam Scott would drive down the right-hand side, go past two men and slip in Paul Smith. He fired a cross to the front post but Munn got down to save.

After just five minutes Annan went ahead through Aidan Smith.

Tommy Muir flicked a pass round the corner to Scott.

Charlie Maxwell picked up the ball and floated it to the back post for the arriving Aidan Smith, who first time volleyed the cross into the net.

Paul Smith was to be the next to let one fly, but Munn would get down to hold the effort.

Just a minute later Annan had the ball in the net for a second time, but it was to be disallowed after Tommy Muir was caught offside.

On the 31st minute Forfar levelled the scoring. Aidan Haddow sent a corner into the danger area, towards stand in skipper Jake Dolzanski. He would rise above his man and head the ball into the bottom right corner.

Forfar gained wind in their sails after the equaliser and came close to scoring off a corner again.

Mackenzie Lemon beat his man this time and headed goalwards. However, Gio Clarke pulled off an outstanding stop to keep it out.

The away side came out sharp for the second half creating a chance at the back post on 46 minutes. The ball was whipped to Tyler Pasnik, but Hooper was there to defend and clear.

After a Forfar corner, Annan countered with Scott leading the charge. He surged down the right before making the pass.

Aidan Smith got an eventual shot off the edge of the box but dragged it wide.

Paul Smith then created two Annan chances from corners in the 67th and 73rd minute.

The first being attacked by Tommy Muir and Aidan Smith: however, keeper Munn pulled off a wonder save to keep Annan at bay.

The second was attacked by Dixon, who rose above everyone else, yet his header would go over the bar.

The final chance of the game came for Mumbongo on the 80th minute. Aidan Smith sent a teasing cross to the unmarked striker in the box, yet he failed to get a good enough connection on the ball and headed wide.

The final whistle sounded shortly after, with both teams taking a point away from the contest.
