South title in touching distance
DALBEATTIE Star can win the South of Scotland League title this Saturday afternoon at home to Wigtown and Bladnoch.
Following a 2-0 victory at home to Abbey Vale at Islecroft on Monday night, in which Kyle Higgins and Reece Paterson got the goals, Star sit top of the division.
With two games remaining, they are two points in front of Stranraer Reserves. However, the Blues only have a single game left to go.
Dalbeattie’s goal difference is far superior to Stranraer’s. So even a draw would probably be enough.
Last Thursday night Lochar Thistle set up a third South League Cup final in a row following a 2-0 win at Dalbeattie. Both goals came in the first half: the first was scored by Cammy Shaw before Star netted an OG. Abbey Vale await in the final, date and venue TBC.
On Saturday the two teams met again for the second time in less than 48 hours in a league clash.
David Adams opened the scoring for Thistle before goals from Kylan Hunter, Declan Rogerson and Dan Carmichael secured a 3-1 win for Dalbeattie.
Over at Trammondford Park Abbey Vale fell to a 1-0 against Wigtown.
