IN what turned out to be their last game of the season on Monday night, Mids lost out 4-0 to league champions Dalbeattie Star at Lockerbie in The Tweedie Cup Quarter Final.

Mids competed manfully against their classier opponents, especially in the first half, and, although they lost two bad defensive goals, they still carved out a couple of decent chances of their own: one effort cleared of the line and a Robbie Carcu effort thwarted by a last ditch tackle.

Two up at half time, Dalbeattie struck in the first minute of the second period to almost kill the game off and with the referee brandishing yellow cards all over the place the game petered out with The Star adding one more to their total to give them a 4-0 scoreline.

Highlights of the second period were a stunning penalty save by Mids keeper Ciaron Boyes and a five minutes light failure towards the end of the match.

Mids would like to wish Dalbeattie all the best in their semi final and express thanks to all supporters who have turned up at New King Edward Park over the past year.

With the season now finished, preparations are already underway for next season in Lockerbie and Mids have acted fast. They have announced the signing of Lochmaben’s Stefan Ramsay as player/coach.

A club statement said: “Stefan brings a wealth of experience both on and off the park, and his knowledge and leadership will be a massive help to the development of our young players throughout the club.”

  • LOCHMABEN claimed a point in their final fixture of the season on Wednesday night.

They drew 1-1 with Abbey Vale in a South of Scotland League contest at Whitehills Park.

Visiting defender Lewis McKenna slotted home the opener for Vale from the penalty spot early in the first half. But the Burgh equalised before half time when Kieran Brown fired home a neat finish from the edge of the area.

Lochmaben had chances to win the match late on but Vale’s goalkeeper was equal to any efforts.
