IT was a strong three-point weekend for the Solway Sharks as they finally returned to home ice. The team started their treble-header on their travels last Friday where they lost 8-3 to Sheffield Steeldogs. Derek Osik notched a double for the Sharks, whilst Jake Bolton netted one. But the Sharks were successful in their Dumfries Ice Bowl homecoming and picked up their first victory of the season in a belter over Swindon Wildcats. Carter Hamill opened the scoring in the first period before Osik and Kell Beattie made it 3-0. But Swindon managed to claw two back before the end of the second period. It was a tense final period but it was the Sharks who recorded their first win on home ice against the current league leaders. Osik and Duncan Speirs scored to finish the contest 5-3. The following day, the Sharks and Wildcats played again. This time, 60 minutes and overtime couldn’t separate the two teams. It finished 1-1 with Scott Henderson scoring for Sharks – assisted by Stuart Kerr and Joe Coulter. However, the Wildcats took home the two points after penalties. This weekend it’s another Shark Tank doubleheader where they play Romford Raiders.
