DUMFRIES and Cartha were victorious at last weekend’s Moffat Tens Tournament at The Holm.

In the Men’s competition, Dumfries Saints went home with the shield.

The President’s Select side finished third after great wins over hosts Moffat and Bishopton.

The Annan men did one better to end up second. After three wins and a draw in the group stages, they made it through to the final to play Dumfries.

The pair had drawn 5-5 in the group stage but Dumfries edged the final contest, which was a fiery derby match, 12-5.

Down 7-0 at half time, Annan were boosted when a Dumfries player was shown a straight red for foul play just as the second half started. Young Rohan Cother crashed over shortly afterwards to make it 7-5.

Despite the one man advantage, Annan could not get over the try line for the winning score despite constant pressure and it was Dumfries who managed to make the game safe with a break away try.

In the women’s section, it was Cartha who were crowned winners, with Wigtownshire runners up.

After three group stage wins and two losses, Annan Warriors played Bishopton in the 3rd/4th final. The Warriors dominated the game and won 17-0 to finish up in third place.

Thanks are expressed to everyone who helped organise the event and to all of the sponsors.

Elsewhere, last Thursday Annan U16 Hornet Alahna Dinnin was selected to play for Glasgow West v Glasgow East and versus Caledonia.

Some amazing rugby was on show from all of the players involved.

Congratulations to her from everyone at Annan Rugby
