SCOTTISH Team, the Portobello based Eastern Amateur Coastal Rowing Club, is currently top of the leaderboard at World Championship of St Ayles class of coastal rowing – SkiffieWorlds 2025 – currently being held in Stranraer. They sit ahead of the current World Champion teams from Northern Ireland, Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club, and Sketrick Coastal Rowing Club in third place.
Ailsa Cook of Eastern Amateur Coastal Rowing Club said: "We're really delighted to be leading SkiffieWorlds. We came to the competition aiming to be the fastest club in Scotland, and we've been blown away by the standard of the racing. We hope to hold onto the lead, but we've still got some hotly contested races still to come.“The 50+ men are excited for the final, they talk about having a bit of magic dust in their boat, because they row so well together.”
The coastal rowing event takes place from 6-12 July with 2,000 rowers competing with teams travelling from as far as Australia, USA, Canada, and South Africa, alongside several teams from the Netherlands and a strong contingent from across the UK and Ireland.
