Sandra ‘The Tartan Witch’ Rees wants to become Britain’s first female champion of the sport at the Fibrus Community Stadium in Workington.

The 33-year-old is set to go for gold against Irish opponent Linsey ‘Loopey’ Moore at WBKB5, in the first ever British female bare knuckle flyweight title fight.

Speaking yesterday, following the completion of an intense ten week training camp, Sandra said: “This is going to be huge for the event itself, it’s the first ever WBKB female title fight.

“I don’t know an awful lot about her (Linsey Moore), although she will be a formidable opponent.

“It would be huge (to win). If you want to do anything in your life making history is up there as one of the best accolades.”

Over the past two-and-a-half months, the mum of two, who is also an astrologer and tarot card reader, has trained at home with fellow Annan bare knuckle fighter Jack Blair; in Newcastle, under world-class coach Andy Davison at O’Toole’s Gym, sharing a camp with world heavyweight champion Mick Terrill and other elite fighters; and she also travelled to the Italian city of Pisa at the end of August for training with Bare Knuckle Championship – BKFC - fighters.

Sandra said: “Going with Andy and Jack has brought a more aggressive fighting style out in me.

“We also went to Pisa and travelled every day to train and spar at Clan Lonzi.”

The training schedule has helped Sandra prepare as best as she possibly can for Saturday night when she will step out in front of 1000 people to contest the title.

Looking ahead to the bout, she added: “I will be locked in when I walk to the ring, it’s about trying to stay cool, calm and collected. You are getting ready for war, ready to release the dog.”

Thanks are expressed to husband Tim, coaches Jack Blair and Andy Davison, and all sponsors.

Also fighting on the night is Dumfriesshire ex professional boxer Kaseem Saleem. He is taking on Ste Burns for the heavyweight title in his debut bare knuckle outing.
