Pre-season football action
MID Annandale dusted off the summer cobwebs in style on Tuesday night as they hammered Carlisle City Development 9-0 at New King Edward Park. Goals in the Lockerbie club’s inaugural pre-season outing came courtesy of Benji Wagner, who notched four; Luke Hammond, who grabbed a hat-trick; Darren Monteith; and an own goal. Over in Lochmaben, the Burgh suffered defeat in their opening two friendly games against strong opponents. Last Thursday they were beaten 7-0 by a well drilled Penrith side, and on Saturday they lost 3-1 away to Glasgow Wellington. Tomorrow afternoon the team entertain Ashfield at Whitehills Park in what is certain to be another tough test, kick off is at 2 pm. The South of Scotland League fixtures for the new season were also recently released. Kicking off on Saturday July 26, Mids welcome Abbey Vale to New King Edward Park, while Lochmaben travel to Wigtown. Elsewhere, new Sunday League outfit Upper Annandale will kick off their pre-season at home to Ruthwell Rovers on Wednesday, July 9, kick off at the Annanside is at 7 pm.
