TWO members of Galloway Mountain Rescue Team will take on a gruelling fundraising challenge this weekend.

Ross Mcconchie and James Anderson will be tackling the Montane Spine MRT Challenger South on Saturday to raise funds for a vital upgrade to the IT systems in the team’s incident control vehicle (ICV).
The ICV is the heart of operations during mountain rescue incidents. It serves as the command centre for coordinating searches, managing communications, and supporting teams on the ground. During missing person searches in particular, having fast, reliable access to information can be critical.
The planned IT upgrade will help them respond more efficiently and effectively when people need help most, ensuring volunteers have the tools they need to save lives.
The duo said: “We will be attempting to navigate 108 miles non-stop along the Pennine Way, trekking all the way from Edale to Hawes. “With a brutal 60-hour strict time limit, massive elevation, and the unpredictable British weather, we are under no illusions about how tough this is going to be. The blisters, sleep deprivation, and psychological hurdles will be very real.”
This weekend’s event is particularly special for James who had to withdraw from the Spine South last year just before the start due to injury, leaving Ross to complete it with Karen.
However, this time he’s back, fully recovered, and ready to take on the challenge alongside Ross.
A team spokesperson said: “Please join us in supporting Ross and James as they tackle this incredible challenge. Every donation will help strengthen our rescue capability and make a real difference when it matters most.”
