OVER 600 cannabis plants were found at a property in Newton Stewart this week.

Ten police officers, both in riot gear and plain clothes, raided the house on Victoria Street at 11 am on Tuesday morning. Onlookers stopped to watch the drama unfold, with some filming the action.

Inside, officers found a total of 614 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £368,400.
Two men aged 37 and 22 have been arrested and charged and were due to appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Wednesday. Further enquiries remain ongoing.

Commenting, Detective Inspector Graeme Robertson said: “This was a significant recovery which highlights our commitment to tackling the supply and distribution of illegal substances on our streets. We will continue to take proactive action to remove drugs from our communities.
“Intelligence from the public is vital. If you have any information about drugs, please bring it to the attention of police. We will fully investigate and take the appropriate action.”
