Oh Nicky, you’re so fine!
STRIKER Nicky Clark came full circle last Saturday after he scored his first Queen of the South goals since returning to Palmerston. It was just the 4700 days between his last goal for Queens against Albion Rovers on May 1 2013 and his first strike in his second stint at the club against Hamilton Accies at the weekend. The 34-year-old former Dundee United and Rangers star made his name at Queens during the double-winning 2012-13 campaign. Clark netted an incredible 40 goals that year and now he’s back up and running in a Queens jersey. But the veteran held his hands up after his mistake cost the Doonhamers early on as Accies striker Oli Shaw scored the opener. Clark made amends with two headers as Queens recorded a 3-1 victory, snapping a six-game winless run. And Clark admits getting back in amongst the goals was a special feeling. He said: “It’s important to get that first goal. I want to score as many goals as possible, I’ve always been like that. “I take responsibility for Hamilton’s goal. I should be doing better. “For my first goal, Kai Kennedy put a great ball into the box and I was just in the right place at the right time to put it into the net. “My second one was another brilliant delivery by Kai. He’s got that quality, you can see what he’s got. I’ve timed the run well and got a header away. “But the most important thing was to get the three points as we’re in the business end of the season. We want to get as many points as possible.” Clark added: “I’ve loved every minute since I’ve come back. I’m getting more game time and I’ve started the last couple of games, so I’m feeling good fitness wise. I’m enjoying helping the younger players. “It was a brilliant result on the back of a couple of defeats and draws. To go behind and come back shows the character we have. “It was a massive win to now get some momentum for the final seven games. “I don’t think we’ve played poorly over the last few weeks but we’ve just not got the result we would’ve wanted. “It was important for us to step up against Hamilton. We put in an excellent performance and got the win too.” And now Clark hopes he can continue piling the goals in, starting against struggling East Fife at Palmerston on Saturday. He added: “Every game will be hard no matter what. We hope to get another three points next week against East Fife.”
