Nunholm win big to stay in top spot

IN Western Championship Two on Saturday, despite rain interruptions, the Dumfries 2nd XI, Nunholm, managed a huge winning margin of 231 runs against Glasgow side Hamilton Crescent to stay at the top of the table.

Nunholm batted first and put up a big total of 271 for 6 in the 40 overs.

The Hole in Wa’ player of the match, Wahid Jabarkhil, hit a second successive 50 with 51, plus 52 from Ronan Dunbar, 51 from Max Corbett-Byers and 49 not out by Pat Druce.

Nunholm were then successful in hunting wickets and dismissed the visitors for just 58 before the weather intervened.

Sultan Kamran with two, including a spectacular running boundary catch by Jabarkhil, and Pat Druce removed three early wickets and they kept falling with a further three to Trevor Newport. The fielding side also contributed three run outs for a comprehensive team victory.

In Western Premiership One, the Vigilant Dumfries game at Prestwick was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

On Sunday, Dumfries lost to Clydesdale in the second round of the Scottish Cup. The visitors won the toss and put Dumfries in on a fresh wicket. That proved dividends with early wickets from which Dumfries never recovered.

The Clydesdale opening bowlers shared six wickets between them as the home side were all out for just 70. Adam Malik was the side’s top scorer with 20.

Then, with further rain interruptions threatening, Clydesdale made rapid progress to a comfortable seven-wicket win with Scotland Captain, Berrington, hitting the winning boundary. Nairn Cubbon took one wicket and the Solway Insulation player of the match, Munro Cubbon, claimed two, which included a great one-handed catch at gully by Ritchie.

Also that day, a young Dumfries Sunday XI enjoyed a close finish at Galloway.

Billy Morgan, Bill Middlemiss, Sultan Kamran and James Cox all retired at the threshold of 25 runs as Dumfries reached 141 for 6. Then despite four wickets, plus a run-out, to junior player Isaac Ishmael, plus a further three from Kamran, Galloway won by two wickets. On Saturday, the 1st team, Vigilant Dumfries, play Drumpellier at home in Western Premiership One and Nunholm are at Anniesland in Western Championship Two.
