NEWTON Stewart rolled up to Lockerbie on Wednesday night for a Haig Gordon Memorial semi final clash and proceeded to roll over the Mids by seven goals to nil. Things started badly for the home side with Newton scoring in their first attack when their striker picked his spot with a header after being left unmarked at a corner. Mids never recovered from this start and, with a combination of defensive mistakes, and some enterprising forward play, Newton Stewart went in 4-0 up at half time. The second half continued in the same vein and the Stewartry boys ran in a further three goals to complete a miserable night for the Mids, who will not be relishing a trip down the A75 to take on the same opponents this Saturday in a South of Scotland League match. Elsewhere, Lochmaben’s scheduled league clash at home to Abbey Vale was postponed on Wednesday after persistent rain throughout the afternoon left Whitehills Park unplayable. The Burgh are back in action on Monday night away to Lochar Thistle in the first round of the Cree Lodge Cup. Both Annandale teams play again on Wednesday in the league. Lochmaben host Nithsdale, while Mids travel to Creetown.
