New tennis centre is for all of the region
ALL communities in Dumfries and Galloway will have an input into the operations and development of the new regional tennis centre, say officials.
Dumfries and Galloway Council chiefs this week gave assurances that, while the new indoor tennis centre is located at the King George V Sports Complex in Dumfries, it will be fully inclusive to tennis lovers from different corners of the region.
The keys to the new £2.3m facility will be handed over later this month and then it will be tested out by schools and clubs in December, ahead of a formal launch and opening in January.
The matter was discussed by councillors on Tuesday, where Abbey Councillor Davie Stitt described it as ‘a whole Dumfries and Galloway project’.
The indoor site will feature three indoor tennis courts with a fabric roof above.
There will also be changing areas, offices and toilets.
Tennis Scotland provided nearly £1.7m funding towards the £2.3m costs, with the council contributing £471,000, and the Hollywood Trust adding a further £200,000.
