New 5K event off to a soggy start

IT was ready, steady, go for the very first Caledonia Park 5K at the weekend.

The border shopping outlet hosted the start and finish lines for the running in the rain event, which saw 300 enter and 238 on the start line, of all ages.

The winner, in a time of 15:54, was George Sidway of Border Harriers; second was Gary Pala, Cumberland AC in 17 minutes; and third was Andrew Douglas, Eden Runners, 17:44.

Josh Atkinson was the senior winner and fourth overall; while the veterans section was won by Duncan Scobie of Dumfries Running Club.

In the females, victory went to Marie Marshall, of ADAC, in 19:34; followed by Katie Imrie, of Always Ready Club Carlisle on 21:40; and ADAC’s Shannon Morrin with 22:05.
