THE Moffat Pool Team has officially joined the Dumfries Pool League, marking an exciting new chapter for cue sports in Upper Annandale. The team was formed after an idea from players Alan Harris and James Fisher, whose enthusiasm for bringing competitive pool back to Moffat has been the driving force behind the project. Based at The Coachman Bar, Moffat, the team has already begun to make its mark, both on and off the table. The venue provides players with a match table and a social hub where they and their supporters can gather before and after league nights. Joining an existing league can sometimes be daunting for a new side, especially one coming in from out of town. However, the Dumfries Pool League and its member teams have set the tone from day one with a welcoming and inclusive approach. Opposition teams have gone out of their way to make fixtures enjoyable, offer advice on how the league runs and ensure that the Moffat players feel part of the wider pool community. While many people have contributed to making this move a reality, special recognition is due to the league’s chairman, Peter, whose efforts have been pivotal in getting Moffat accepted into the league. For the players, joining the Dumfries Pool League opens up a range of opportunities. They will now compete regularly against experienced sides, test themselves in a structured environment and develop both individually and as a team. Younger and less-experienced players in Moffat can now see a clear pathway into competitive pool. Although the Moffat Pool Team is at the beginning of its journey in the Dumfries Pool League, the foundations being laid are already impressive. Team captain Alan said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the Moffat Pool Team has been created, and it’s a real joy to see the Coachman Bar in Moffat full of players enjoying themselves. “The league is tough, but that’s exactly what we expected, and the hospitality and support we’ve received has been exceptional. “We’re proud of what’s been achieved so far and excited about what the future holds for this team, long may it continue.”
