Mids well beaten in cup contest
THE Alba Cup semi final at New King Edward Park, Lockerbie on Saturday ended up as a procession for last season’s South League champions, Lochar Thistle, who won 7-0.
Better in every department, the Dumfries side took the match to the Mids straight from the first whistle, and it was no surprise when they turned around at half time four goals to the good.
The Lockerbie lads gave the ball away cheaply and lacked some bite in the tackle.
Manager Craig Simpson rung the changes throughout the second half but the self inflicted errors continued to come with some slack passing, defensive mistakes and some inexperience, all contributing to a final scoreline of 7-0 to Lochar.
With no fixture next weekend, the Mids have now got three weeks to work on their game before Stranraer come calling on league business on September 6.
Elsewhere, Lochmaben exited the South Challenge Cup in the first of the competition after losing 4-1 to Stoneyburn at Whitehills Park.
After going in at halftime 2-0 down, the Burgh played well in the second half.
Although they lost two further goals, they hit the woodwork twice and Denver Milligan pulled one back.
This weekend Lochmaben travel to Abbey Vale on league duty.
