Mids in home defeat
THE Mids hosted Creetown last Saturday for a South of Scotland League clash.
And the visitors, after claiming a 3-1 victory, joined their Lockerbie opponents on eight points in the South table.
The home side missed a couple of good chances in the first ten minutes, but against the wind they were pinned back by the Ferrytoun for long periods.
However, against the run of play, tenacious Mids striker Darren Monteith squeezed home a low shot to give the Lockerbie side an interval advantage and, playing with the strong wind, hopes were high for the second period.
It did not quite work out that way, however, and, ten minutes into the second period, Creetown were in front from the penalty spot.
The awarding of a penalty was hotly disputed by the Lockerbie side who claimed a foul in the build up .
Mids could not quite get a foothold in the match and two preventable goals in a three minute spell midway through the half gave the away side all three points with no way back for the hosts.
Mids will be hoping for revenge this Saturday against the same opponents when they travel to Creetown for a quarter final tie in the J Haig Gordon Memorial Trophy.
Elsewhere, Lochmaben were unfortunate not to come away with any points as they took on top of the table Stranraer Reserves.
The Burgh lost 3-2 after 90 minutes, however, they took the lead early on when Kieran Brown headed home.
High flying Stranraer then took the lead following a rebounded penalty and an own goal.
But Jed Simpson levelled it up on the stroke of halftime with a 30 yard strike which went in off the post.
In the second half the Reserves conjured up a winner to take all three points and leave Lochmaben with nothing to show for their efforts.
The Burgh are without a fixture this weekend.
