McGregor secures USA scholarship
A TEENAGER ice hockey player from Dumfries has earned a prestigious ice hockey scholarship to study and play in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Cassie McGregor’s love for the sport began at the age of seven, when she first stepped onto the ice at Dumfries Ice Bowl during an open day – starting out with a penguin skating aid. From those early moments, her passion for the game grew rapidly. The 17-year-old has gone on to become a dedicated and valued player for her hometown clubs, Solway Juniors and Solway Ladies, where she developed her skills and built her reputation as a strong and determined presence on the ice. Her talent and commitment have also earned her call-ups to represent Scotland and England, before being selected to play for Team Great Britain. Competing at international level, Cassie proudly wore the GB jersey in major European tournaments, where she helped the team to an unforgettable gold medal victory, showcasing her ability to perform under pressure at the highest level. Her achievements have now been recognised across the Atlantic, where she will soon join a top-tier hockey academy in Boston. The scholarship provides her with a unique opportunity to continue her development, both athletically and academically. Cassie extends heartfelt thanks to all the coaches, mentors, and volunteers who have supported her journey – particularly those at Solway, whose belief in her potential has been instrumental in her growth. She also acknowledges the vital role her family has played in helping her reach this exciting milestone. Her family are incredibly proud and wish her every success as she takes this next step in her ice hockey journey.
