Mavericks back in home waters
THE Merrick Mavericks were delighted to return to their home pool at the Merrick Leisure Centre on November 1 after a period of closure. The Newton Stewart based swim team were out of the water there for five months whilst refurbishments works were carried out to ventilation systems, plant works, redecoration and new showers being installed.
Eager swimmers turned up to be greeted by happy coaches, all excited to be first in the water after the closure.
The Mavericks were offered pool time at the Ryan Centre in Stranraer during the closure, which nine swimmers committed to, with the remainder struggling to be able to make the times offered work for them.
Committee chair Jemma McNeill said: “We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at the Ryan Centre for welcoming the Mavericks and to Stranraer Stingrays for accommodating us in their additional pool training time too.
“We are all delighted to be back home at the Merrick and keen to get everyone back in the water.”
