IN Western Premiership One on Saturday, Vigilant Dumfries were put into bat at Ferguslie and could only reach a final total of 70, with number three Adam Malik making the best contribution with the top score of 24. His was the seventh wicket and was one of four dismissals for overseas player Jewell. Ferguslie then readily reached that target for the loss of two wickets to Callum Reynolds-Lewis and Ben Plowman for an eight-wicket win. Malik was the player of the match for Dumfries. In Western Championship Two at home, the Dumfries 2nd XI match against Ferguslie 2nds was abandoned due to rain. The Dumfries Sunday XI amassed 231 for 7 in 20 overs against Keswick in the league on Sunday, hitting 26 fours and 11 sixes in the process. Adam Malik was once more a top scorer with 61 not out. That was after an 18-ball 50 by opener Wahid Jabarkhil, for the player of the match award, and a 19-ball 50 by Callum Reynolds-Lewis at the end of the innings. However, despite the match overs already being reduced to 20-a-side, rain also intervened to halt play with Keswick 11 for two, but not before junior Lachlan Osmond claimed two wickets in the 3.3 overs possible. Dumfries U13s did complete their match on Friday at Caldbeck and with a 120-run win. The Dumfries batting fired with Dashiel Trigg, Edward Ellicott and Danny Allsop all retiring on 30. Angus Middlemiss also hit 20 and notable were sixes by both Danny and Reiff Colchester to reach 162. In a good team performance, the bowlers followed suit and Lleyton and Lennox Endredy and Lenny Lightfoot each claimed two wickets to help dismiss the home side for 42. Mehr Sultan, Dashiel and Angus took the wickets to close out the innings. Dumfries first team player, 15-year-old Munro Cubbon, received his first representative call-up for Scotland with his selection for Scotland U17s in their fixtures this week playing against Cheshire U18s. On Saturday, the 1st team, Vigilant Dumfries, play Prestwick at home, while the 2nd team, Nunholm, play Hamilton Crescent away. Dumfries U16s play Ferguslie in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Friday. To try some junior, senior and women’s cricket at Nunholm the club can be contacted via [email protected]
