Lochmaben put on five star derby display
LOCHMABEN came from behind at New King Edward Park on Wednesday night to beat Mid Annandale 5-1 in a South of Scotland League clash. The much anticipated Annandale derby between Mids and The Burgh took place at Lockerbie under the lights in front of a large crowd made up of supporters from both sides and a fair scattering of footballing neutrals. After an even start, the home side edged in front after 10 minutes when Robbie Carcu headed home a fine cross by Euan Wright. Lochmaben got back on level terms on 18 minutes when they netted after some good play around the home penalty box. For the rest of the half the visitors produced their best spell of the match with their front players making the most of the tactical ball over the top, and with two more goals, they went in 3-1 up at half time, thanks to goals from Kieran Brown, Jamie Daniels and Lennon Kerr. Despite the deficit, the Mids made a good fist of it in the second half and, although Lochmaben always looked dangerous, the best three chances fell to the Lockerbie side. Craig Peat headed just over, Carcu hit the bar with a cracker and Thomas Crooks sent a free kick just the wrong side of the post. Nevertheless, Lochmaben finished strongly and two late strikes, from Denver Milligan and Connor Graham, gave them a 5-1 victory and a first victory over the Lockerbie side for some time. Next up for Mids is a Haig Gordon Semi Final Cup tie at New King Edward Park on Wednesday, April 15, kick off is at 7:45 pm. Lochmaben are also in action next Wednesday night. They entertain Abbey Vale in a league contest at Whitehills Park, kick off is at 6.45 pm.
