GRETNA FC 2008 walking footballers clinched the Cumberland Walking Football League last Sunday in Workington Due to the Raydale side’s great start to the season, they arrived knowing that one win would be enough to bring the title back across the border. First up was Penrith and, after a battle, two goals from Jonny was enough to seal a 2-0 victory and win the title was won. Next up was Workington Reds, this ended goalless. Workington Blues followed, and a goal from Brian and Rocket, who rolled back the years to toe poke the second, helped Gretna to another 2-0 victory. Queen of the South were the fourth opponents of the day. After a tough first half, goals from Jonny and Burger in the second period gained the Black and Whites another 2-0 triumph. In the final match Gretna faced Carlisle United and the two played out a 0-0 draw to finish the season. A league and cup double is the reward for all the hard work by all involved. The club is always on the lookout to recruit new players. They train every Monday at Raydale from 7 pm to 8 pm. All are welcome. First session is free.
