Late goals dash Lochmaben cup hopes

Newton Stewart 3-2 Lochmaben THE Burgh exited the Potts Cup in the first round last Saturday after a 3-2 defeat against Newton Stewart at Blairmount Park. Kieran Brown scored in the seventh minute from just outside the box to open the scoring for the visitors. Lochmaben hit the crossbar from a Jamie Daniels free kick shortly after. And Travis Hughes hit the post from a strike just inside the box, before Thomas Cruickshank pulled off a fantastic save before the break to keep the 1-0 lead intact. Lennon Kerr doubled the Burgh’s lead when he scored in the 55th minute. However, the home side pushed to get back into the game and scored in the 78th, 91st and 97th minute, making it 3-2. Jordan Atkinson very nearly scored an overhead kick from just inside the box towards the end of the game but the home keeper tipped his effort on to the bar. The two sides meet again in the league this Saturday at Whitehills Park.
